Worship

Somewhere at quarter past five tomorrow morning, someone is going to be navigating in the dark with a kid asleep in the back seat and a bag of gear in the trunk. Six o'clock ice. And standing at the boards when they get there will be a coach. Who is also awake at five. Who is not being paid. Who has a job to go to at nine. Here is what gets me about that person. They are not watching a nine-year-old who can barely stop. They are watching who that kid is going to be at fifteen. They can see it. That is the whole reason they are there in the dark. And when there is a bad season — and there is always a bad season — the coach does not walk away. They change the drill. They come back Tuesday. This Sunday we are in Philippians 1, where Paul tells a church he loves that the one who began a good work in them will see it finished.
